Early Years and Formation

Iron Maiden was formed in East London by bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris. The band's name was inspired by the medieval torture device, reflecting the dark and intense themes that would become synonymous with their music. The original lineup underwent several changes before stabilizing with the arrival of guitarist Dave Murray, who has remained a constant member.
