Origins and Rise to Fame

Ghost was formed in Linköping, Sweden, in 2006. The band's mastermind, Tobias Forge, originally chose to remain anonymous, adopting the moniker Papa Emeritus for his onstage persona. Forge's vision for Ghost was clear from the start: to create a band that combined the heavy riffs of Black Sabbath, the theatrics of Alice Cooper, and the pop sensibilities of ABBA.

Ghost's debut album, Opus Eponymous, released in 2010, was a critical and commercial success. The album's mix of retro-sounding hard rock and satanic lyrics quickly garnered attention. Songs like "Ritual" and "Elizabeth" showcased the band's ability to craft catchy yet darkly atmospheric tunes.
